International Open Call & Curatorial Award for Contemporary

BUAT CURATORIAL AWARD 2027

BUAT FINE ART announces the BUAT Curatorial Award 2027 — an international curatorial selection created to identify distinctive artistic practices and support their professional development within a structured gallery context.

The Award is built around a multi-stage curatorial process, moving from initial review and preselection to the Official Shortlist and the Grand Prix.

Selected artists receive public recognition through BUAT FINE ART’s website, social media and the official Award catalogue, while the Grand Prix Winner is invited to develop a curated presentation at the gallery in central Barcelona.

The programme also creates opportunities for professional curatorial support and may lead to future collaboration with BUAT FINE ART beyond the Award itself.

Final Application Deadline 30 December 2026

Final Results — 30 January 2027

APPLY FOR SELECTION

About the Award

The BUAT Curatorial Award is an annual international open call and curatorial selection programme developed by BUAT FINE ART for contemporary artists worldwide.

The Award is conceived not simply as a competition, but as a curatorial process. Each submission is considered within the context of the artist’s broader practice, with attention to conceptual clarity, artistic consistency and the coherence of the submitted body of work.

Through the Award, BUAT FINE ART seeks to recognise compelling contemporary practices, bring selected artists into a professional gallery context and create meaningful visibility through curatorial selection, publication and presentation.

The programme also serves as a platform for discovering artists whose work may develop into future exhibitions, curatorial projects or other forms of collaboration with BUAT FINE ART.

SELECTION PROCESS

INITIAL ELIGIBILITY REVIEW

All applications are reviewed by the BUAT FINE ART curatorial team.

Why Request a Curatorial Report

Many submissions fail not because of the work itself, but because of how it is positioned and presented.

A written curatorial response can help clarify:

  • how your work is perceived from a curatorial perspective
  • whether your portfolio communicates a coherent artistic direction
  • which aspects of your presentation could be strengthened before future applications

Optional Curatorial Report €100 (VAT included)

Regular BUAT Curatorial Support Fee: €200
Award Participant Rate: €100

A professional internal analytical document focused on:

  • curatorial reading of the submitted work
  • coherence of the body of work
  • visual and conceptual strengths
  • artistic positioning
  • possible directions for further development

Due to the volume of applications, only a limited number of written responses is available.

REQUEST CURATORIAL REPORT

Optional Curatorial Essay €450 (VAT included)

Regular BUAT Curatorial Support Fee: €900
Award Participant Rate: €450

A professionally written public-facing curatorial text developed for use in:

  • gallery submissions
  • exhibitions
  • grant and residency applications
  • professional presentations
